My German friend, Philipp met his beautiful soul mate, Anna and promised their life together as a husband and a wife on April 10, 2011. The ceremony took a place at Anna's parents house in Marlborough, MA. It was a small wedding with family members and a couple of close friends only. Everyone was very welcoming me, being there as one of Phil's friends and the photographer of the day. I still have more photos to finish up editing but couldn't help myself wait till then. This is one of the projects I worked on while taking Fine Arts Color course with Erin Carey at NESoP before my project completely changed to new one, the "window series." To be honest with you, I really did enjoy being in Fine Arts Color class. This class made me put lots of meaning to each image I photographed. It's just everyone has different visual eyes for different things and I focused more on the fields my eyes were / are meant to be good at at the end.

Photographs of sky must be one of the world's most existed photos. You see uncountable forms of sky each day - blue, gray, orange, amber colored sky at sunrise, noon, dawn, sunset or at night. Just like many people who grab their cameras to record the look of sky at a certain time, I've also captured tons of sky photographs I must say. And I think it is a matter of how to present those (somewhat very common) images to make them look visually interesting to viewers.

I had a wonderful opportunity to photograph Nickea Minjung Kim, a singer songwriter in Boston area / Korea. "Her work is on the form of folk rock, influenced by 60s, 70s rock music such as The Velvet Underground and The Beatles, while nicely melting the other genres including classical, jazz, flamenco and tango."

Nickea was very easy to work with since she is such a cheerful, upbeat and easy going girl. Also she was well planned-out with the style of photographs she wants of herself to advertise her (korean edition) album which is coming out in January, 2011. She had all sorts of idea in her own drawings, which I really thanked her for making my job even easier. :p The photographs will be used on her album cover, website, poster and as other advertisement material. Here are a few favorite!

After living in Brookline for 6 years, I found a new place in south boston from Sep 1st, 2010. This is kind of an exploration for me since I'm not the one who likes changes whatsoever. The new place I moved in is right by the Carson Beach on Columbia Road, South Boston. One night, it was very foggy and misty (supposed to get big hurricane on the night, which did not really happen) and I managed to capture a few images shooting through the window from my apartment.

I had a great opportunity of shooting a wedding for the first time!! It was my friends' wedding at a church I attended for last 10 years. I couldn't have seen myself shooting at any weddings bcuz i've been such a nervous freak (?) until I actually shot one. Thanks to my friend DJ, who was another photographer of the day to get me through this big day!

I take pictures for reasons. We all do. I say mainly to keep memories in us. We take pictures of something specific for reasons. I say because the things we photograph are beautiful, cool or nasty. Searching through, selecting from and using tons of photos I've taken for many days, many years for many reasons at many places with many different medium of cameras, I've been creating "new places." Places that are vaguely remained in my memory as bits and pieces. Places that are fuzzy to remember well because memories vaporize as time passes. When all the elements of photos I've taken throughout my life meet together and are harmonized, they create surrealistic but perfect dream-like places in me. - here are more creative imaging arts project works.

Creative Imaging Arts

Creative Imaging Arts is my elective class for the last term in NESOP. I really really enjoy working on images for this class. This is my kind-of-fine art-approach class since I mostly do commercial photography such as advertising and architecture photography. I'd had kept it as a major only if I had more time to come up with 15 solid portfolios by the end of May. It's such a time consuming work I need to put on and I was kinda stressed out while I was majored in this class beginning of this term. Now I loosened up myself and enjoy a lot more working on each images. I'm creating dream-like scenes / places.

If possible, yes only if the time is allowed, I'd like to come up with all 15 diptych images for adv. portfolio since I now have 3-4 portfolio-worthy single shots. One single image (a wine cork opener which was shot in term 1) is now on its transformation of becoming a diptych. I prob will make other single shots into diptych by shooting new objects that would go with each of the images. Cross your fingers for me! ;)

Privus, the sushi restaurant / lounge (Architecture Photo)

This shoot was a new approach to my architecture photography. I've been mostly shooting interiors of residences, esp. the high-end condominiums. And this time I moved on and shot a sushi restaurant / lounge, PRIVUS, in Allston area. Here are the best images from privus. My only wish is that the boat-shaped bar (2nd image) was more lined up, top and bottom, when it was built originally. Other than that, it was really a cool and interesting place to shoot.

Advertising Work - diptych, conceptual still life.

Here are my recent advertising work. I'm continuing with diptych in sort of conceptual still life style. Unofficially i'm majoring in advertising so i'm more focused on these than i've ever been. It's unofficial only bcuz i haven't officially swapped the major, yet. But since my mind is very much set for advertising now, i'll try to continue producing more portfolio worth work.

Fire at a pond in fenway area

I had a quite eventful experience in this afternoon on April 5th, 2o1o. My eyes caught dark brownish colored smoke coming from fenway area towards kenmore sq. when i was standing outside of 650 Beacon St., my school digital lab. I, at first, wasn't sure what that smoke was since it wasn't the normal gray, black smoke from fire we usually see. But when the sound of sirens began to go off all around kenmore / fenway area, we, bunch of NESOP kids grabbed their cameras and started running off to the place, following the smoke. Unfortunately and very very very sadly, I didn't have my camera with me today! ugh! :( So I grabbed my cell phone and ran instead. I got so closed to the fire later on when I actually went under the bridge near the fence right next to the pond. I watched the whole thing until the fire went off when it reached the bridge. Yea it's not D700 quality but my cell did it's best to get some good pics this afternoon. ;p

Before the spring break I had a chance to shoot at DNA Lofts in Dorchester. I was pretty satisfied with myself on the day of shooting at FP3, the first condominium I shot a while ago, but this time I was even more confident. "Down the Rabbit Hole" from Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland final image is finally here !!

In week 4 this term in advertising class, we had a big production day which was working as a group. I had three partners to work with, and the theme was recreating scenes from "Alice in Wonderland." Each person got to choose his / her own scene to work on. But the whole point of this production was working "as a group", helping and assisting each other. I did a scene "down the rabbit hole" where alice falls down the hole. It was 11 hours of preparation (models, make-up, hair, props), assisting and shooting. And the post-production was even more work to go through.

recent advertising shots. i, for some reasons, enjoy shooting reflective objects, which gives me very tough time in both shooting & post-production work. HA! :p and i love to spend time in arranging objects to find a pleasing composition for my shoot. this might be my so-called "style" in advertising photography. oh and one more thing. i'm so into diptych these days! (and very colorful? yeah.)

This week's assignment for digital art class was very wide open, just like it's been throughout term 2. It was to create my own custom alternative digital process. I tried Lens Baby, which I didn't know nesop stockroom had all these time. ugh! It was fun using it, but was hard to focus though. And I ended up creating a few images which can go with my previous work, "the window series" :)

Building a website in html format using Dreamweaver is very tedious and time-consuming job. I ended up restarting the web from the scratch at least three times because each time something was wrong, something was missing, or something was not right. So this is it! A fancy flash website will be available for "yjclick.com" when I actually make money and hire a web designer to do it in the future! ;p

FP3 Boston (architecture photography project)

It's official. I'm going to be minoring in Architecture Photography. (only bcuz it is only a minor class, otherwise I would love to major in this!) And my "own" final portfolio project is shooting high end condominiums / houses, mostly the interiors. I freaked out over all these "contacting places on my own, making appointment, and going in for photo shoot" processes I need to go through. But I got so lucky and was able to get into a luxury condominium called "FP3" in Fort Point district area. I shot two different model units and here are images from the "Loft Room 309" !

And the image below is a sneak peek of Terrace Room 613 ! :)

I'll be editing tons of images taken at this room. I'm so pumped to get the final images!

Korea Part 4-SamzieGil 쌈지길

Samzie-Gil is a market complex located in Insadong. There are variety of shops (traditional, antiques, modern), galleries, snack bars and etc. as you walk up the spiral shaped building. Some of shops are breathtaking, at least for me, with full of very unique items. And the entire place is highly decorated / designed with fun & interesting stuffs!

Korea Part 3-InSaDong 인사동

INSADONG is a town of the JongRo district in Seoul. The main street of Insadong is well known as a traditional street to both locals and foreigners and represents the "culture of the past and the present". It contains a mixture of historical and modern atmosphere and is a "unique area of Seoul that truly represents the cultural history of the nation." Most of older buildings are now used as restaurants or shops. The area is well known for sightseeing, with approximately 100,000 visitors on Sundays. It contains 40 percent of the nation's antique shops and art galleries as well as 90 percent of the traditional stationery shops.

Korea Part 2-Konjiam Resort 곤지암 리조트

Christmas day in Konjiam Resort with my BFFs.

This place is very new and very near from Seoul, the capital of Korea, where I live. When Konjiam Resort was under construction, my mom joined the membership so, well, we were lucky to get a room for 12.25-26!

It snowed. It was a white christmas! :)

Korea Part 1-SamCheongGak 삼청각

A brief history on SamCheongGak - Samcheonggak was first established in 1972 as a traditional Korean entertainment venue for high ranking government officials. In 1979, it operated as a private restaurant. Then the site was opened to the public in 2001. The site contains a performance hall, a Korean restaurant, a tea house, and guest accommodations. It is one of the most famous places in Seoul for traditional performances and fine dining.

I was able to visit just the tea house due to a tight schedule

and wish i had a tripod and a BETTER CAMERA :x

There were many repeated images since i took the pics of the same building over & over, so these are the final few I came down to.

Malek in a living room set-up

Advertising in week 9 : Photo Illustration with People. I created a very messy typical boy's living room scene. Yes they are studio shots and yes I brought all these props to school from my place - Wii, all the video games, remote controllers, empty beer bottles, cans, popcorn, butterfly chair, etc.. Hooray to this photo shoot on very last day of 1st term advertising class. Many thanks to Malek and Cathy :) - 스튜디오가 아닌 다른곳에서 찍은것처럼 셋업을 하여서 사진을 찍는 수업시간 이었다.

"Conceptual Self-Portrait" it was I believe when I had Creative Digital Imaging class (a.k.a. photoshop class) over the summer. Literally, it was about creating "conceptual self-potrait." Ok, i just repeated myself. ;p blah blah blah and here goes a image done in June or July 2009.

Advertising in week 7 was "Photo Illustration." = bring outside, inside. Ok, so basically we were asked to set up scenes that supposed to look like they are shot outside of the studio. Here's my final image for the photo illustration and an image of the actual behind scene.

Hanbok, Korean Traditional Dress

Advertising class in week 8 was "PORTRAIT" shoot. Ugh! whyyyyy?!! I'm not a big fan of taking people's pictures, at all. It's just not my thing. Anyhoo, I shot my friend with Korean Traditional Dress called "Hanbok" on. I took about 180 shots just to capture the best moments of my friend while she loosened up herself in front of camera. And here are the best 5 images from the shoot.

"Window Series" : Night Light

Finally my "Window Series" has found it's direction. Now it's become more about color, geometric shapes, texture, light, and the positive/negative spaces. My attempt is to give the viewers little bit of the sense of "peeping," the very base idea of how this series's traveled this far, by creating the windows in small scales in a grand negative space. AND blah blah blah.. more to come in WORDS since my brain is very tired from trying to find out the way to explain about this series.

Oh, I've titled the images "Night Light" for now.

New England Sculpture Service

I had a chance to visit New England Sculpture Service in Chelsea, MA on Nov 19. It was such an interesting place to shoot, at least for me, because of all kinds of cool tools, rusty, dusty and messy stuffs. ;p Thanks to the owner who let me shoot the place while waiting for my friend to go over her business with them.

homemade shabu-shabu

Shabu-Shabu's become one of my favorite food ever since who-knows-when! ;p One night over at my friends' house at south end during this thanksgiving break. i played with my 50mm / f1.4 lens which was one & only lens i had back then. most of shots were taken b/w @ f1.4-1.6, therefore, some of shots may be very distracting due to too much out of focus. and all of these images were taken at ISO 400-640 so pardon the quality my humble D200 is able to produce. BUT, please enjoy amazing taste of shabu-shabu by looking at my images! ;)

This is how my friends and I rolled from main dishes to desserts.
